Lindt Excellence Chili Bar
Posted by skinnyoffice
Like red wine, dark chocolate belongs to the short list of indulgent foods/drinks people like that are actually good for us. In moderation, of course. According to a study conducted by researchers from San Diego State University, dark chocolate can have a positive effect on the heart by lowering “bad” cholesterol and blood sugar levels while raising good cholesterol levels. Excellent! So why not celebrate this (old) good news with a bar of dark chocolate? Seems appropriate to me!
As the picture illustrates, Lindt Excellence Chili is a dark chocolate bar with a hint of red chili. I chose it because I have recently become a big fan of the combination of sweet and spicy. The first time I had a spicy sweet candy was back in high school when my good friend Melissa shared her candy from Mexico with me. It was red (a telltale sign of tastiness) but it was coated in this questionable, spicy powder. My mouth was almost immediately overwhelmed by the complex flavor, and I decided that I wasn’t a fan. How things change.
The chili in this chocolate bar is very light; I didn’t really taste it until I neared the end of my square. Personally, I would have preferred more heat simply because I am not too keen on the bitterness of dark chocolate, but if you love the bitterness of dark chocolate, you’ll definitely appreciate the chili hanging out in the background. Rather than adding heat, the chili adds an interesting note to the overall taste of the bar, allowing you to enjoy Lindt Chocolate with the smallest of flairs.
A serving of Lindt Excellence Chili is comprised of 4 squares, and there are 10 squares per package. Each serving contains 190 calories, 7 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 5 milligrams of cholesterol, 0 milligrams of sodium, 0 grams of fiber, 19 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein. The sugar content is understandably high as this is a bar of chocolate but it contains less sugar than a lot of other drugstore dark chocolate brands. Additionally, each serving has 2% of the daily recommended of calcium and vitamin A as well as 6% of the daily recommended amount of iron. This bar is not vegan.
